Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced
Materials: (You only need partial of each colourway)
Head & Body: Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran in Misty Grey
Shirt: Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran in Red Pillar
Buttons: Chunky Gold Yarn (If you don’t have, you can double aran weight gold yarn)
Button Loops: Aran Weight Gold Yarn
Crochet Hook 3.25mm
Stitch Marker
Tapestry Needle
Eyes: 2 amigurumi eyes (6mm)
Nose: 1 amigurumi eye in black (9mm) – please ensure the backing is not too big but secure.
Optional: blusher to colour inner ears, black yarn to embroider nose

Stitches: (US Crochet Terms)
MR: magic ring
ch: chain
sc: single crochet
inc: increase (2sc in one st)
dec: decrease (I prefer invisible decrease)
sl st: slip stitch
BLO: back loop only
BB: back bump or 3rd loop
FO: fasten off

Head:
Using Grey Yarn: starting from nose to back of head
R1: 6sc in MR (6)
R2: (sc, inc) repeat (9)
R3: sc around
R4: (2sc, inc) repeat (12)

*add the 9mm eye right into R1 and secure backing. If your backing is too large to fit,
please embroider with black yarn instead.

*stuff lightly, we want the leg/thigh to be plump but a little flat to sew onto body later

Using Grey Yarn:

R2-5: sc around

Collar:
Using Red Yarn:
working in rows:
ch16, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in every ch until last ch, sc in last ch.
FO leaving long tail to sew collar onto neck area of the body.
Ears: (make two)
Using Grey Yarn:
R1: 6sc in MR (6)
R2: inc around (12)
R3: (sc, inc) repeat (18)
R4: (2sc, inc) repeat (24)
FO, leaving long tail.

*Pinch ear where the long tail is, using tapestry needle and long tail – sew about two or three st so
the ear can be curved.

Assembly:

1- Line head and body together, sew securely.
2- Sew arms on both sides of body, between head and body.
3- Sew ears around 3 rounds behind each eye, aligning the pinched part with each eye.
4- Line collar so that the ends meet under the nose and sew securely. Pay special attention so it looks similar to a collar of a traditional Chinese jacket.
5- Sew leg and feet together, then sew the upper part of leg securely on body sides of the boy, just under the red jacket.
6- Using chunky gold yarn, make 3 french knots evenly under the collar, aligned with rat’s nose.
7- Using thinner gold yarn, create 2 loops on both sides of buttons, ensuring the edges of loops aligned vertically. Please reference picture for more detail.
8- Weave in all ends. You can use blusher to give the ears a pinkish colour.
