Place doll eyes (DO NOT attach eye backs yet). I normally place eyes between round 14 – 15 or 15 – 16 depending on shape of doll head and leaving about 5 to 6 sts in between the eyes. You can leave less or more depending on your personal preference. If you want to do the white felt behind the eyes cut a small slit in the felt and insert the stem of the eye into the felt and then place the stem into the doll head. (See picture 1 for doll head with eyes without felt).
24: 1 sc in next 3 sts, sc2tog (repeat around) (24) If you are happy with your eye placement go ahead and add safety backs as well as begin to stuff doll head.

Doll Hair
Wig Cap (optional) I use a wig cap so I don’t have to install as much hair however you can install the hair right onto the doll’s head if that is your preference.
Using Aran (4) weight yarn and 3.5mm hook follow the instructions for the head rounds 1- 18, try the wig cap on doll’s head you want it to fit snug and come down to almost the neck in the back. You may need to add 1 or 2 rounds of sc in each st around to get the proper fit.
For the actual hair using aran (4) weight yarn cut strands to length (this process is easier if you wrap the strands around a book or anything that’s the length you would like the strands to be and then cut one end. Once strands are cut split the yarn to give it a more textured effect. Install the strands into the wig cap or doll’s head using “latch hook” method. Simply insert your hook into a space on the wig cap/head, wrap strand around hook and pull through space on wig cap, this will create a loop with the strand simply take the two ends of the strand and pull through the loop. This creates a knot so that the hair stays in place. Repeat this method until the head is covered. Cut and style the hair to your liking.
Once the hair is complete see resource page for video link on how I attach my dowel heads with wooden dowel. Once head is attached you can sew on your doll’s arm and weave in any ends.
I use skin tone yarn to embroider the doll’s nose, white yarn to embroider teeth and skin tone yarn to outline the teeth for the doll’s mouth.
